Sweet Itch Season Is Coming 04/03/2009 15:30:55: Sweet itch is caused by an allergic reaction in horses and ponies to the bite of the female midge fly. Symptoms can include restless behaviour in the paddock such as excessive rolling or rubbing the mane and base of the tail sometimes to the point where the skin is broken and becomes ridged.
